American fans shouldn’t be disappointed since NIS America announced at Anime Expo that they licensed the movie in America. NISA didn’t announce a release date, but one could expect to see it in early 2014. NIS America also released Hanasaku Iroha on Blu-ray+DVD in two premium sets

The Home Sweet Home film is a spin-off from the original TV anime series, Hanasaku Iroha. The film first premiered at Kanazawa City’s 2nd Yuwaku Bonbori Festival (a similar festival portrayed in the anime) on March 9. The film was officially released nationwide on March 30 in theaters. The film was reported to gain over 100 million yen (about 1 million dollars) 2 weeks after its theatrical release.

The movie also premiered for the first time in North America at Anime Expo, the largest anime convention in North America. The script writer for the series, Mari Okada, also attended the convention as a Guest of Honor.

The movie is not a sequel to the TV series and occurs a little before episode 11. The movie delves into the past of the Kissuiso, and more specifically the past of Ohana’s mother, Satsuki. The movie is a definitely a great edition to the Hana-Iro series and knows how to deliver them feels!  If there wasn’t anybody else around me while I was watching the movie at AX, I would’ve been bawling my eyes out.
